Description
The tour starts with an extensive presentation (incl. coffee) on the Airwar ’40-’45 and the development of the nightly air war. The function of the – still existing – German ‘Grossraumgefechtsstand’ Diogenes (D for Deelen), from which the airspace of Luftwaffe 3rd Fighter Division – covering all of the Netherlands plus the German Ruhrgebiet- was guarded, After this introduction we will continue with a walk in the surrounding Divisions-dorf : we will visit the location of the first ‘Gefechtsstand’ (command-post), bunker Diogenes, former German barracks etc.
After the buffetlunch (included) we will have a look at the former German Luftwaffe buildings, e.g. the fire-station, fuel depot Me 163 rocket fighter, taxi-tracks and railway, former locomative-shed and hangars of the Luftwaffe nightfighter base “Alster”. At the end of the day we will visit the Deelen Airfield Museum with boasts an impressive array of airwar findings both from US / British and Luftwaffe aircraft which ended in Dutch soil.
